What It’s Like to Stay Cave Hotels in Cappadocia

Let me share a bit about my stay. My first impression of the room was delightful. The space was adorned with vibrant Turkish textiles, creating a cozy and exotic atmosphere. Beautiful cushions, antique-style chairs, and warm Turkish rugs completed the ambiance. The room also had modern conveniences like a cleverly concealed mini-fridge, a small television, and reliable WiFi despite the thick cave walls. Toiletries and a hairdryer were provided, adding to the comfort.

Right across the street, the breathtaking view awaited me. The landscape, with its majestic stone pillars, looked like something out of a fairytale. At night, the distant twinkling lights of nearby villages added to the magic.

What truly set this hotel apart, however, was the extraordinary hospitality of its staff. For instance, on our second day, we wanted to hike in Rose Valley. The staff not only provided us with a detailed map but also offered a free drop-off service at a time that suited us best. Such attentiveness made my experience truly special.

Cappadocia Cave Room Hotel

Each room in the MDC Hotel has its own story. The room I stayed in, for example, was once used by local farmers for storage. During the cleaning and restoration process, a tandır (traditional oven) was discovered where the bed now stands. Unfortunately, most of the tandırs had to be moved to make way for the current layouts.

Another fascinating detail is the bathroom area, which was originally a wine production space. Grapes were crushed, and the juice flowed into a collection basin carved into the stone wall. When the room was discovered, the front wall was worn down and had to be restored using local Cappadocian stones. The interior walls, blackened from years of tandır use, have been left untouched to preserve their authenticity.

Learning about the history of my room added an entirely new dimension to my stay. It made me appreciate not just the comfort but also the cultural significance of the space.
