How to Get to Belisirma Village Cappadocia?
Belisirma Village Cappadocia is 7 kilometers from Güzelyurt and 25 kilometers from Aksaray. From Aksaray city center, you can reach the village in 45-50 minutes by bus or minibus. If you’re traveling from Nevşehir, the 95-kilometer journey takes about 1.5 hours. Many tours to Ihlara Valley include stops at Belisirma Village Cappadocia. Daily buses also operate from Nevşehir to the area. If you’re driving, take the Aksaray-Nevşehir road and turn off at the 11th kilometer to head towards Ihlara Valley.
The History of Belisirma Village Cappadocia
Historically, the village was inhabited by Greeks who named it “Peristirema.” Over time, the name was Turkified to Belisırma. Another local legend suggests the village was named after a horseman with a golden belt (“sırma” in Turkish) who settled there. The Greek name “Peristirema” translates to “pleasant view,” which seems fitting for such a picturesque village.
Unfortunately, due to significant migration to larger cities, Belisırma Village has shrunk in size. Although tourism has promoted small-scale accommodations in the area, the village is now mostly a destination for visitors rather than a thriving local community. While the village initially developed in its northern part, it has gradually spread to flatter areas. You can still see restored old houses, some of which now serve as restaurants.

Located near the Melendiz Stream, this church dates back to the reign of Byzantine Emperors Basil II and Constantine VIII (976–1025), as indicated by an inscription found inside. Frescoes depict two archangels, the Deesis, Virgin Mary, Child Jesus, Zechariah, and Joachim.
Bahattin Samanlığı Church
The frescoes in this church date back to the late 10th and early 11th centuries and have survived relatively intact. The church’s name derives from a villager named Bahattin, who used it as a hayloft in the past.
Batkın Church
This is one of the most deteriorated churches in Cappadocia. Although it dates back to the 8th century, only remnants of the structure remain today.
Kırkdamaltı Saint George Church
Built between 1283 and 1295, this church contains depictions from the Bible as well as a portrait of Seljuk Sultan Mesud II, who supported its construction. Six burial chambers are located beneath the church.
Ala Church
Dating back to the 11th century, Ala Church is a domed structure. Unfortunately, most of its frescoes have been damaged over time.
Bezirhane Church
Located next to Ala Church, Bezirhane Church was used to produce linseed oil. Over time, the smoke from boiling herbs damaged the frescoes, leaving them in poor condition today.
Karagedik Church
Known as Saint Ermolaos Church by the Greeks, this 11th-century structure is situated atop a hill covered in grass. Sadly, the church has suffered significant damage, with only its roof and northern walls still standing.
